The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) revealed that nearly 10 Australian companies covered under the 2016’s “Safeguard Mechanism” scheme are responsible for more than half of the greenhouse gas emissions. The mechanism was adopted to stop the oil and gas companies from extracting and reducing GHG emissions. However, it was found that the same emissions rose 20% after the nation adopted the mechanism.
