A sudden and powerful cloudburst triggered a devastating flash flood in Dharali village, Uttarakhand, on Tuesday, sweeping away buildings and homes in a violent surge of water and debris. At least five people have been confirmed dead, while around 100 remain missing, including eight soldiers stationed nearby.
The disaster struck as villagers gathered in a temple for a festival. Terrifying footage showed muddy torrents engulfing the town, prompting panic and chaos.
Rescue operations continued through the night despite relentless rain, washed-out roads, and rising rivers. The India Meteorological Department reported hefty rainfall of up to 21 cm, while the Central Water Commission warned that several rivers remain in a “severe flood situation.”
