Britain is ill-prepared for worsening climate impacts like flooding, heatwaves, and wildfires, according to the Climate Change Committee (CCC). “We’re not ready—and in many areas, not even planning to be,” warned Julia King, chair of the CCC’s Adaptation Committee.
Despite record floods and extreme heat in recent years, the committee’s latest report criticises the UK’s lack of adequate planning. This comes after scientists confirmed 2024 as the hottest year on record, with climate change driving more frequent and severe weather events.
In response, the government said it is investing £2.65 billion to strengthen flood defences and boost community resilience. The CCC reviews the UK’s progress in climate adaptation every two years. Read More
