Early spring has brought unprecedented warmth to Europe, marking yet another alarming milestone in our changing climate. According to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, March 2025 was officially Europe’s warmest March on record.
“Temperatures continue to defy historic patterns,” said Samantha Burgess, Deputy Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service. “March 2025 not only set a new European record but also showcased extreme weather contrasts across the continent.”
While some regions grappled with their driest March in nearly five decades, others endured record-breaking rainfall, underscoring the intensifying volatility of weather patterns across Europe.
On a global scale, March 2025 ranked the second-warmest ever recorded, surpassed only by March 2024. The global average temperature for the month was 1.6°C above pre-industrial levels, pushing the world beyond the safety limits set under the Paris Agreement.
