The UK has recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures climbing to 30.5°C in Kent as forecasters warn that even more extreme heat could follow over the bank holiday weekend.

The temperature recorded in Frittenden marks the first time since 2012 that the UK has reached 30°C in May, according to the Met Office—another sign of intensifying, increasingly prolonged heat events.

Meteorologists now warn that Monday could become the hottest May day ever recorded in the UK, with temperatures potentially reaching 33°C across southern England and the Midlands.
